Duelist Kingdom Rankings

Welcome to the Duelist Kingdom tournament section! Tournaments will be held at least once a month. I will take a few moments to explain some of the differences between the public version of Duel Monsters Online and the Duelist Kingdom version.

General Information

  • WorldChat can not be used in the Preliminaries.
  • Players can not use Private Messages.
  • Entrants and finalists can be viewed with the Player Data button or the Ladder icon.
  • Spectators (and disqualified participants) can view any duel.
  • Duelists in the Preliminaries can use the Watch Duel icon to view the MiniMap to locate Empty Tables, Sub-Deck Editing Areas, Other Duelists, or the Castle.

WorldChat is disabled in order to make it seem more realistic for the ones competing in the tournament. Rather than the participants constantly shouting "Duel me, I'm over here!", they will have to wander around and find players in their view to talk to. Private Messages are disabled for the same reason. Any spectator can freely WorldChat and comment if they choose because anyone viewing the Title Screen will be able to view any duel.

Logging In

Reserved Positions

There will be a few Reserved Positions for each Duelist Kingdom tournament. The main way these positions will be given out is through our DK Qualificiation Ranking system for Duel Monsters Online (see Ranking button on the left). This is a Ranking system exactly like our current Ranking system except it will be reset after each DK so that everyone will have a fresh start to try for a sure spot in the next Duelist Kingdom Tournament. Reserved Positions may also be given out to those that have done well in a previous DK or as a prize.

Information

Now for more information about what players will actually need to do when they log into the Duelist Kingdom server. When players first login, they will be at the Title Screen. The Title Screen will have buttons to click on and information displayed on it as the tournament progresses. As explained earlier, here it is possible to view any duel. This is the place to get your deck and Sub-Deck (more information on Sub-Decks below) ready for entering the tournament during the registration process. Deck Codes will need to be retrieved from a regular Duel Monsters Online server. Registration will probably be held for approximately half an hour to an hour depending on how long it takes to get enough participants for the tournament. Arriving early assures that you have enough time to think of what kind of deck you would like to use and get the Deck Codes ready for registering.

Sub-Decks

Sub-Decks are not to be confused with Side Decks, which are commonly used in the TCG. The player may exchange cards from their Sub-Deck with cards from their deck. The differences are listed below.

  • Each player has a Sub-Deck, which may contain up to 10 cards(May include Fusion cards)
  • Between duels players may exchange cards from their Sub-Deck with cards from their Deck
  • The Deck+Fusion Deck must contain the same number of cards after exchanging cards with Sub-Deck
  • Unaffected by limits from cards in Deck(but Deck may not have more than 3 copies as usual)

Registration

As stated above, registration will be held for half an hour to a full hour to give everyone enough time to register. The first thing that needs to be done prior to registering is to make sure that you have your Deck Code(s) ready. Once registration is open and you are ready to register, click on the Register button. This will bring up a screen to input your Main Deck Code and Sub-Deck Code (Optional) into. If the Deck Code entered goes against the tournament rules, it will show a message saying which rule it is going against.

Restricted/Shadow Points System

There are a few new rules unique to the Duelist Kingdom version, which include Restricted Points and Shadow Points. A few of the most commonly used and most powerful cards have been assigned point values based on their overall usefulness. Based on the number of Restricted Points that the tournament is set to, you will only be able to use a few of these cards in your deck. Ex: Raigeki is worth 5 points, so if the maximum Restricted Points are set to 4 then Raigeki will not be able to be placed in your deck for that tournament. The average Restricted Point range for most tournaments will be from somewhere in between 10 and 20. Shadow Points are similar to Restricted Points in that all shadow cards are assigned point values. This lets a tournament be created that allows a few lesser shadow cards in a deck or one powerful one.
I will go a little more in depth to explain the Points system. For Restricted Points, any card not listed is worth 0 points, meaning you can have as many of those cards as you like. For the cards that are on the list that you decide to put into your deck, add up the point value next to it for each card you put in to your deck. Ex: Lets say that the Restricted Points are set to 10. Now, if you add Raigeki(5), Card Destruction(2), Time Wizard(1), and another Time Wizard(1) then your deck will have a total of 9 Restricted Points. 9 is less than 10 so it's okay, you would only have to take cards out of your deck if the total points went over 10 until you brought the Restricted Points down. Ex: You have Raigeki(5), Harpie's Feather Duster(5), and Scapegoat(1). This puts your total points to 11. Removing any one of these cards will take you to 10 points or less and allow you to register using that deck. The same is true for Shadow Points. Ex: Shadow Points are set to 10. Each card not listed on the Shadow Cards list is worth 1 point. So you could have Blue Flame Swordsman(2), Harpy Lady: Airo(1), Harpy Lady: Keraino(1), Dimension Fusion(3), and Harpie's Hunting Range(2) which is a total of 9 Shadow Points and still be able to register in the tournament. If a card listed has 0 points then it will not affect your total number of Shadow Points. Keep in mind that Restricted Points and Shadow Points are completely seperate from each other. If a tournament is being held that has 10 Restricted Points and 10 Shadow Points, that means that you can have 10 points out of the Restricted Points List and 10 points out of the Shadow Points List.

Once registered, you will be added to the list of people that have registered. You can view this list by clicking the Player Data button. From this point, you can chat or do other things until the registration period ends.

Duelist Kingdom Tournament

Preliminaries

The tournament will start soon after the Registration has been closed. When the beginning of the tournament has been announced, all participants will be teleported to different locations on the Duelist Kingdom Island. Each duelist is given 2 Starchips; the goal is to win 10 Starchips and enter the castle. The dueling options are standard (8000 Life Points and 7 minutes per turn). Duels may not be cancelled without admin intervention and at least 1 Starchip must be wagered; up to 3 Starchips can be wagered. Duelists can click the Watch Duel icon to view the MiniMap to locate Empty Tables, Sub-Deck Editing Areas, Other Duelists, or the Castle. There are 8 areas on the island where you can switch out your Sub-Deck between duels. Admins reserve the right to disqualify any player that is found breaking the rules, attempting to cheat, or acting inappropriately; disqualification is not up for discussion, and correspondence will not be entered into. Only the first 8 duelists into the castle will be accepted! Entering the castle quickly may be beneficial to you.

Castle Entry

When 8 duelists make it inside the castle, the remaining duels will be cancelled and the remaining duelists will be sent to the Spectator Room. Do not worry if you did not make it inside the castle, you will still be given a rank based on how you did (more information on Ranking below) and you will be able to watch the duels that will take place inside the castle from the Spectator Room. If for some reason 8 duelists are not able to make it into the castle, the extra spots will be filled with duelists selected by the Admins based on performance so far in the tournament.

Castle Elimination

There will be a short 10 to 15 minutes break before the Castle Elimination starts. The 8 finalists will be assigned numbers based on their entry into the castle. The match ups are decided randomly based on these numbers being drawn from a lottery. The Elimination round will then start and will have these 4 duels going on simultaneously. The Admins will then decide what kind of dueling format that the duels inside the Finals Room will be held in. Each duel in the Semi-Finals and Finals will commence at the same table, meaning that there will only be one duel at a time. When the duels are over, the winner will be announced and given recognition on the website (not to mention high ranking)!

Ranking

I will not go into too much detail regarding the ranking system, but I will mention a few things about it. The point system ranges from 0 to 100 points; the better you do, the higher your rank. Each player's best rank per tournament will be displayed under Top Rankings and the most recent tournament rankings will be displayed under Recent Rankings.

Conclusion

Each tournament will probably last at least 3 to 5 hours, be sure to allow yourself enough time for everything. Planning ahead is important as your Sub-Deck will be a major factor in your strategy. Before posting questions on the forum, make sure that you check the FAQs section and the help file in DMO first. I hope this information is useful as it has taken me over 7 hours to finish it. Most importantly, enjoy the tournament, play fair, and have fun!
